Commemoration of the 40 Years Lima Declaration of the INTOSAI

The Hon’ble Auditor General of Bhutan led a three-member delegation to Lima, Peru to attend the “Commemoration of the 40 years of Lima Declaration of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI)”. The Hon’ble Auditor General, as one of the panelists for the INTOSAI Project on Peer Review on the Independence of SAIs will make a presentation on the Actions Taken by the RAA to the Independence Peer Review carried out by SAI Japan in 2016 on the first day of the meeting.

The Lima Declaration was signed during the IX INCOSAI in 1977 held in Lima, Peru. This document is considered as the Magna Carta of government auditing, as it laid the foundation of public Control. The principles established in the Lima Declaration have endured in time, and have also been recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 66/209 “Promoting the efficiency, accountability, effectiveness and transparency of public administration by strengthening supreme audit Institutions” and Resolution 69/228 “Promoting and fostering the efficiency, accountability, effectiveness and transparency of public administration by strengthening supreme audit Institutions”.

The commemoration of forty years of Lima Declaration is to provide opportunity to reflect on the progress of independence in Supreme Audit Institutions around the world. The event will take place at the Convention Center of Lima on 5th December, 2017 and is coordinated with the General Secretariat of the INTOSAI. Coinciding with the event, the opening ceremony of the 7th International Anti-corruption Conference will also take place on 6th December, 2017.
