Royal Audit Authority Celebrates 56th Foundation Day

Thimphu, 16 April 2026 – The Royal Audit Authority (RAA) of Bhutan proudly celebrated its 56th Foundation Day, marking more than five decades of dedicated service in strengthening public sector accountability, transparency, and good governance in the Kingdom. The celebration has been celebrated across the four regional office and Professional Development Centre.

The commemorative event was graced by the presence of the Dasho Auditor General, along with the Joint Auditor General (JAG), Deputy Auditor General (DAG), Assistant Auditors General (AAGs), Heads, senior officials, and staff members with the offering of butter-lamp at the RAA Choeshom followed by cake cutting and then experience sharing by senior colleagues. The celebration provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the RAA’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1970, and to reaffirm its steadfast commitment to excellence in public sector auditing.

Over the past 56 years, the RAA has played a pivotal role in promoting sound financial management and accountability across the public sector. Through its independent and objective audits, the Authority has significantly enhanced transparency and ensured the prudent use of public resources. Its contributions have supported the Government’s efforts toward sustainable socio-economic development and the strengthening of good governance.

In his address, the Dasho Auditor General highlighted the significant milestones achieved by the RAA and acknowledged the unwavering dedication and professionalism of both past and present staff. He emphasized the importance of innovation, capacity building, and the adoption of emerging technologies to address the evolving complexities of public sector auditing. The Auditor General also reiterated the Authority’s commitment to upholding integrity and fostering public trust

Coinciding with the Foundation Day celebration, the RAA officially launched its Strategic Plan 2025–2030, initiated the Smart Audit Platform (SAP) Project, and introduced the RAA website chatbot, marking significant steps toward digital transformation and enhanced service delivery.

The SAP Project, as part of a broader Smart Audit Ecosystem, will strengthen data-driven auditing through the development of an audit analytics platform, a Knowledge Management System, and the upgradation of audit information systems. The website chatbot, on the other hand, is aimed at improving accessibility to information and enhancing engagement with stakeholders through timely and user-friendly responses.
