One the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the IDI (INTOSAI Development Initiative) in collaboration with the Royal Audit Authority, the Permanent Mission of Kingdom of Bhutan in New York and the INTOSAI General Secretariat organized a side event on 21st July 2025, to launch IDI’s SAI SDG Auditor Initiative and to discuss on how SAIs (Supreme Audit Institutions) and stakeholders can work together to enhance competencies and capacities for auditing the implementation of SDGs.
The side event, organized both in-person and virtually, was attended by various supreme audit institutions, INTOSAI bodies and other key stakeholders including UN agencies, international organizations, civil society, academia and national governments. The Auditor General of Bhutan, in his welcome address, highlighted on the need for the SAIs to help their respective governments in achieving the SDG goals by auditing and providing constructive feedbacks and recommendations. The Auditor General also participated in the panel discussion on “SAI Competencies, Capacities and Contribution to the 2030 Agenda”. The Auditor General highlighted on the impacts created through the implementation of the RAA’s SDG audit recommendations by the Government of Bhutan. While at New York, the Auditor General along with the team from IDI visited UNDESA office in New York followed by visit to the IFAC (International Federation of Accountants). On the afternoon of 22nd July 2025, the Auditor General also attended the High-Level Political Forum at the UN Headquarter.
